DJIBOUTI (Dawan), 10 August 2026 — A U.S. military aircraft crashed near Djibouti’s Chabelley Airfield on Sunday, according to the Djibouti News Agency. The U.S. Embassy confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway.
In an initial statement, the embassy said it was monitoring an emergency involving an aircraft in Djibouti’s airspace and advised the public to avoid the area near Chabelley Airfield.
In a subsequent statement, the embassy said the incident occurred near Chabelley Airfield and that investigations were ongoing to determine the details and circumstances of the crash.

Preliminary information released by the embassy indicated there were no reported casualties or property damage.
The embassy added that its personnel are working closely with Djiboutian authorities to address the situation and again urged the public to stay away from the area.
Chabelley Airfield is located near the U.S. military’s Camp Lemonnier base in Djibouti, which serves as the main U.S. military facility in Africa.
