Somaliland and Taiwan have announced their commitment to strengthening their cooperative relationship following an official meeting held between the two sides.
The meeting between Somaliland and Taiwan took place in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, where the newly appointed Representative of Somaliland to Taiwan, Ambassador Mahmoud Aden Jama (Galaal), officially presented his credentials to Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to a statement from the Somaliland News Agency (SOLNA), the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of trade, health, education, and technology.
The Somaliland envoy in Taiwan praised the role Taiwan plays in supporting the development of Somaliland’s economy and in enhancing technological knowledge within Somaliland’s institutions.

Additionally, a report aired by a Somali-language television station stated that the ambassador delivered an official letter from the President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), to the President of Taiwan, regarding the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
For his part, Taiwan's Foreign Minister, emphasized Taiwan’s strong commitment to deepening the friendship and cooperation with Somaliland. He highlighted that Somaliland and Taiwan share a common vision rooted in stability, democracy, and the struggle for the realization of their national aspirations.
Somaliland and Taiwan have enjoyed a special diplomatic relationship since 2020, and have maintained ongoing cooperation based on mutual interests ever since.
Taiwan has been seeking international recognition of its sovereignty for over 70 years, while Somaliland has been in pursuit of independence for more than 30 years.
