MOGADISHU, 10 October 2026 The United Nations has expressed concern over escalating conflict in Baidoa, warning that insecurity and repeated displacement are worsening the humanitarian situation for civilians.
George Conway, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, said on Saturday, 10 October 2026, that the conflict poses particular risks to internally displaced people, women, children, older people and persons with disabilities.
He noted that the situation is being compounded by the risk of famine, persistent child malnutrition and the threat of flooding associated with the El Niño phenomenon.
