Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The United Nations' Assistance Mission in Somalia and The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) expressed their deepest condolences to the government and people of Somalia following the sudden demise of former Minister of Women and Human Rights, Khadija Mohamed Diriye in Djibouti yesterday.
“We share the sad news with the FGS and the people of Somalia on the sudden demise of Minister Khadija, who tirelessly worked with ATMIS and the international partners to help improve the well-being of Somali women. She was at the forefront of the fight against Al-Shabaab. leading women groups to denounce terrorism. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the FGS, her family and to the Somali people. May Allah have mercy on her soul and grant her a place in Jannatul-Firdaws – Aamin,” Head of ATMIS Amb. Mohamed El-Amine Souef said.
"The UN family in Somalia is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the Minister for Women and Human Rights Development, Khadija Mohamed Diriye. The Minister served the Somali people for most of her life, both in parliament and in multiple public service positions, dedicating herself to advocating for women’s empowerment and defending human rights. The UN family in Somalia expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the late Khadija Mohamed Diriye and the Government of Somalia", UNSOM said on X.
Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr Workneh Gebeyehu also expressed sympathy to the Somali Government over the death of former Minister, Khadijo Mohamed.
"My deepest sympathies to the Gov't of #Somalia & the family of Minister Khadija Mohamed, who passed away in Djibouti today. It was an honor to work with the late Minister, including at the IGAD Ministerial Meeting for the Adoption of the IGAD Regional Gender Strategy in November", he said.
Djibouti President, Ismael Omar Guelleh shared the condolence with Government of Somalia on shocking death of Mrs. Khadijo Diriye.
The deceased was Born, raised, and educated in Mogadishu, the late Minister Khadijo was one of the longest serving public servants, holding various roles in the government since the year 2000. She served as a Member of Parliament (MP), Minister, and State Minister in previous administrations. Until her passing yesterday, she was an MP and the immediate Minister of Women and Human Rights.
