Somalia, 3 April 2026 The United Kingdom has welcomed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s invitation to the opposition Somali Future Council for talks, urging dialogue to address national issues and promote stability.
UK Ambassador to Somalia Charles King said engagement among Somali stakeholders is essential at a critical time for the country.
“During this critical period, dialogue is the best way to address national priorities, promote stability and support the interests of all Somalis,” King said in a statement released by the British Embassy in Mogadishu on Sunday.
He added that the UK stands ready to support Somali-led efforts.
“As a partner and friend, the UK stands ready to support Somali-led efforts,” King said.

The remarks come after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud invited the Somali Future Council for consultations to address key national issues, including elections, governance and state-building.
The UK is among Somalia’s key international partners and has repeatedly called for inclusive political processes to support long-term stability.
