MOGADISHU, 30 September 2026 The United Kingdom has expressed concern over renewed fighting in Baidoa and called on all parties to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions and resolve their differences through dialogue.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the British Embassy in Mogadishu said the renewed violence was having an impact on civilians and warned that further fighting could worsen the already fragile humanitarian situation in South West State.
“We call on all parties to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions and resolve their differences through dialogue,” the embassy said.

The embassy also warned that communities in South West State are facing the potential impacts of El Niño in the coming weeks, adding to existing humanitarian pressures.
The UK has previously highlighted the potential humanitarian risks associated with El Niño in Somalia. On Sept. 24, Britain announced £5 million in new humanitarian funding to help communities prepare for anticipated flooding during the October-to-December Deyr rainy season.
