Somalia, 30 September 2025 – The United Kingdom has announced $22 million in new funding to support the African Union Support to Somalia mission (AUSSOM), reinforcing AU-led efforts to back Somalia’s security transition.
According to a statement from the British Embassy in Mogadishu on Monday, the funding is part of a broader package of nearly $30 million, which also includes $8 million for the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).
UK officials said the new contribution reflects London’s continued backing for African-led solutions to Somalia’s security challenges.
Since 2021, the UK has contributed almost $140 million to AUSSOM and its predecessor missions, making it one of the mission’s largest financial supporters.
The announcement comes after an AUSSOM donor conference held last week in New York, co-hosted by the UK, the Federal Government of Somalia, the African Union and the United Nations. The event underlined the need for sustained international funding to keep Somalia’s security transition on track.
The African Union has previously stated that AUSSOM requires $196 million in 2025 to sustain its operations, but the mission’s budget remains incomplete.
