NEW YORK, 7 October 2026 – The United Arab Emirates, represented by its Ministry of Interior, hosted a meeting of the Strategic Police Advisory Group focused on support for police, rule of law and security sector reform in Somalia.
The meeting was held at the UAE's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the mission said in a post on X on Wednesday.
The meeting featured a briefing on U.N. support to Somalia, including efforts to strengthen police capacities, promote the rule of law and support security sector reform, the mission said.
The United Nations supports Somalia in developing a stronger and accountable federal policing system through policy advice, coordination of international support, training and institutional capacity-building.
The U.N. Police Programme also supports implementation of Somalia's federal policing system, based on the 2016 New Policing Model and the 2023 review of the National Security Architecture.

In 2025, the Joint Police Programme Phase II supported the establishment of 10 local police-community partnership boards, while nearly 3,000 police officers and community members received training and support, according to the United Nations.
U.N. priorities for 2026 include advancing the National Security Architecture, establishing the National Security Council and implementing the Security Sector Development Plan, the United Nations has said.
The UAE said it would continue supporting peace and stability and strengthening international cooperation to build more capable and effective national security institutions.
It said those efforts would contribute to security, stability and sustainable development in Somalia and other conflict-affected countries.
