Kenya, 16 January 2026 Two Kenyan police officers have been killed, and two others injured in a deadly explosion near the Kulun Border Point Four located on the Kenya-Somalia border. The explosion occurred while the officers were on a routine patrol in the targeted area.
A police report stated that the blast took place 100 meters inside Kenyan territory near the Bulla Hawa-Mandera crossing.

The officers who died have been identified as Abdirashid Shabellow Ali and Kaboole Mohammed Abdow Issack. The two injured officers sustained varying degrees of injuries, one had minor injuries, and the other had critical injuries.
Al-Shabaab is suspected to have carried out the attack, as the group has previously targeted security operations along the porous border between Kenya and Somalia. Similar attacks have occurred in Mandera and neighboring districts in the past.
Police have confirmed that investigations into the blast are ongoing, and additional patrols have been deployed to bolster security in the area.
