Garowe (Dawan Africa)-A Turkish national identified as Hassan Atar has been captured by Puntland’s Counter-Terrorism Forces (PCTF) during ongoing security operations in the Al-Miskaad Mountains, a rugged area in northeastern Somalia known for extremist activity. The arrest occurred on June 14, 2025, as the suspect reportedly attempted to escape the operational area.
According to Puntland authorities, the arrest is part of a broader effort aimed at dismantling militant networks linked to ISIS and Al-Shabaab. The initiative—known locally as the Hilaac Operation—has, over recent weeks, led to multiple arrests and the reported destruction of militant infrastructure.
Officials say the operation is now entering its final phase, with a focus on targeting remaining ISIS cells believed to be operating in and around the Al-Miskaad region. Since its inception, the campaign has advanced through several phases, targeting known strongholds across Puntland.
