Mogadishu, 18 August 2026 – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday hosted Mohamed Issa Dahir, the top scorer in Somalia’s national secondary school examination, and his mother Safiyo Maalin Abdulle at his office in Mogadishu.
Mohamed Issa, a student at Howlwadaag School in the Banadir Region, ranked first among more than 43,000 students who sat this year’s national exam.
The Prime Minister congratulated Mohamed Issa on his achievement and commended Safiyo for her role in his upbringing and education.
“Mother Safiyo ranked first among Somali mothers, while her son ranked first among Somali students. This was achieved through the mother’s dedication and the effort she invested in her son’s education,” Hamza said.

The government awarded Mohamed Issa a full university scholarship covering studies in Somalia or abroad. The student will choose where to continue his higher education.
“As a government, we will take responsibility for Mohamed’s university education. Whether he studies at home or abroad, he will choose,” the Prime Minister said.
Hamza also announced that Safiyo would be offered a government job in recognition of her efforts in raising and educating her son.
The meeting ended with congratulations for Mohamed Issa, whose achievement the Prime Minister said highlights both academic excellence and the role of parents in supporting education.
