Mogadishu] (Dawan Africa) – The Somali National Army (SNA) announced on Tuesday that its elite Danab Commandos conducted a targeted operation in Yuumbis village, approximately 7 kilometers northwest of Bariire town in the Lower Shabelle region.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the operation led to the killing of eight members of the Al-Shabaab group. Among them was Abdi Jabbaar, known as “Bilal,” identified as a senior figure responsible for planning and executing improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in the region.
“The operation specifically targeted senior Al-Shabaab leaders, resulting in the elimination of eight terrorists, including a high-profile commander, Abdi Jabbaar ‘Bilal’, who was responsible for planning and executing IED attacks throughout Lower Shabelle,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry said Abdi Jabbaar previously held the position of head of explosives operations for Al-Shabaab in the Gedo region and had been active in the group since 2007–2008. He was allegedly involved in the destruction of infrastructure in Bariire, Sabiid, and Caanoole.
The government noted that the operation coincided with Somalia’s Independence and Unity Day.
“The Ministry of Defence reaffirms that the Somali National Armed Forces will continue to relentlessly pursue all remaining Al-Shabaab elements to ensure lasting security, stability, and a free future for the Somali people,” the statement added.
