MEKELLE, 10 October 2026 — The Tigray Peace Force (TPF) has urged fighters from the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) who remain engaged in the conflict to lay down their weapons, offering protection, legal safeguards and assistance with reintegration into civilian life.
The appeal was made in a statement dated 10 October 2026 and attributed to the TPF Central Command in Mekelle, the capital of Ethiopia’s Tigray region.
The statement says fighters who surrender voluntarily will not face retaliation and will be treated with dignity. It also promises assistance with family reunification, as well as access to food, water, shelter and medical care.
The TPF outlines six commitments intended to encourage fighters to leave the conflict. These include personal safety and legal protection, conditional amnesty, family reunification, medical assistance and support to help former combatants rebuild their lives.

The statement further says professional soldiers who meet the required criteria may be considered for positions in what it describes as legitimate peace and security institutions.
However, the commitments have not been independently verified as implemented. The statement provides limited information on how the assurances will be delivered or who will oversee the disarmament and reintegration process.
The implementation of these commitments may prove crucial in determining whether fighters trust the offer and agree to surrender their weapons.
