July 8, 2026 - Three suspects were arrested and assorted crude weapons recovered in Garissa Town on Wednesday as police intensified an ongoing crackdown on rising youth violence and gang-related crime in the county.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Garissa Police Station apprehended the suspects in the **Bulla Sagarey** area after acting on intelligence reports.
Police said the three were part of a group of nine people allegedly planning to commit criminal offences.
"The group initially resisted arrest and resorted to violence, confronting police officers and causing injuries to them," the NPS said in the statement.
The suspects who escaped are being pursued, while those arrested remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges.
The police also recovered assorted crude weapons believed to have been in the suspects' possession.
The arrests come amid an intensified security operation in Garissa following a surge in violent incidents involving teenagers and youth gangs, which have raised concerns among residents and local leaders.
Security agencies have in recent weeks stepped up patrols, intelligence-led operations and targeted arrests in crime hotspots as part of efforts to dismantle criminal gangs and curb attacks involving crude weapons.
The National Police Service urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious individuals and criminal activities, saying community support remains critical in the fight against crime.
Authorities have maintained that the ongoing operations are aimed at restoring public safety and protecting residents from escalating youth-related violence in the town.
