Mogadishu, 26 August 2026 - A brief Facebook post by Somalia's Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi – "السفارة في العمارة," meaning "The Embassy Is in the Building" – has raised questions about who or what he was referring to.
The post came on the same day the Supreme Court annulled the results of Galmudug's simultaneous elections.
The court ruled that Galmudug's parliamentary and local council elections, held on July 30, were not conducted in accordance with the Constitution and electoral law. It ordered the electoral commission to organize fresh elections as soon as possible, while allowing current institutions to continue operating until new ones are lawfully established.
Fiqi did not mention the court, the electoral commission, Galmudug or any other party. Nor did he explain why he invoked the title of an Egyptian film about a man who returns home to discover that the Israeli embassy occupies the same building.

The film depicts a power assumed to be external operating from within, affecting daily life as a foreign presence embedded in his own building.
The timing of the post, the political significance of the ruling and the symbolism of the film have raised questions about whether the minister was alluding to a force operating within state institutions, warning of unseen influence in Galmudug's affairs, or posting something entirely unrelated.
Fiqi alone has the answer. Until he explains further, the phrase remains a political riddle that fuels speculation but does not establish who the "embassy" represents or which "building" it occupies.
