HARGEISA, 5 October 2026 Taiwan has donated $1 million to support the expansion of kidney dialysis services in Somaliland hospitals, state media reported on Sunday.
The funding is intended to increase the capacity of dialysis services and improve care for patients suffering from kidney-related illnesses, according to the report.
Officials from Somaliland’s finance and health authorities, along with the director general of Hargeisa Hospital, attended a ceremony marking the handover of the funds, the report said.
Somaliland officials said the Taiwanese support would contribute to improving essential healthcare services, particularly treatment for patients requiring dialysis.

Somaliland Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, who is serving as acting president, thanked Taiwan for its support for healthcare and social development projects, according to the report.
Taiwan’s representative in Somaliland, Allen C. Lou, said Taiwan would continue cooperation in areas including healthcare, information and communications technology, agriculture, security and social development.
Taiwan and Somaliland maintain representative offices in Taipei and Hargeisa but do not have full diplomatic relations.
