Laascaanood (Dawan Africa) – The leader of SSC-Khaatumo, Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye), has officially announced that the presidential and vice presidential elections for SSC-Khaatumo will be held on August 5, 2025. The announcement was made during the opening of a major conference aimed at finalizing the formation of the SSC-Khaatumo administration, which officially began today in Laascaanood.
“The presidential and vice-presidential elections will be held on August 5,” said Firdhiye.
He further emphasized that the election schedule is official and based on a framework and timeline set by the Technical Committee appointed by the Federal Government of Somalia to help complete the SSC-Khaatumo governance process. According to the Ministry of Interior of the Federal Government, the committee is expected to finalize the institutional setup of the administration before the end of July 2025.
The planned elections are contingent on the outcomes of the ongoing conference, which includes reaching a unified political agreement and adopting a constitution approved collectively by the local population. This constitution is anticipated to serve as the legal foundation for the new administration.
If the elections proceed as planned, it will mark the first official election conducted by the SSC-Khaatumo administration under full legal status, signaling the conclusion of a two-year transitional phase.
The SSC-Khaatumo administration held its first election on August 5, 2023, during which Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye) was elected as an interim leader, along with his vice president. Since then, the administration has operated under a transitional arrangement.
In October 2023, the Federal Government of Somalia formally recognized SSC-Khaatumo as a provisional administration, further legitimizing the governance framework and the planned steps for local elections.
