BAIDOA, 10 October 2026 — Somalia’s Southwest State administration has warned residents of forecast heavy rain, strong winds and potential flooding, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid areas that could be affected.
The Southwest State Ministry of Information and Public Awareness said heavy rain and strong winds were affecting parts of the country. It advised residents to stay away from streams, rivers and low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding.
The ministry also warned people against sheltering under large trees or standing near unstable buildings, noting that strong winds could pose a safety risk.

Parents were urged to keep children away from hazardous areas, while residents were encouraged to work together to protect vulnerable people, particularly older people, children and persons with disabilities.
The ministry cautioned against attempting to cross floodwaters or approaching streams and rivers during rainfall. People in high-risk areas were advised to move to safer locations promptly and follow instructions from emergency response agencies and local authorities.
The Southwest State administration also urged residents to monitor official warnings and avoid spreading unverified information that could cause confusion.
