BAIDOA, Oct 7, 2026 Somalia’s South West State Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has capped the maximum airfare for passengers travelling to Mogadishu at $130, warning airlines against charging more than the set price.
The ministry said in a notice issued on Wednesday that the new fare would remain in effect until further notice, without specifying how long the price cap would last.
Any airline charging passengers more than $130 will face legal action, according to the notice.
South West State also urged passengers to report any airline demanding more than the stipulated fare to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation or officials at Shaati Gaduud Airport.

The decision comes after airfares to Mogadishu rose sharply in recent weeks.
Ticket prices, which previously ranged from $90 to $100, later increased to between $125 and $130 before recently climbing to between $170 and $180.
The increase has been linked to changes in fuel prices as well as the security and political situation in South West State, although the South West State notice did not detail the reasons behind the rise in fares.
The ministry did not specify what penalties would be imposed on airlines that breach the $130 ceiling, but said companies that fail to comply with the directive would face legal action.
