BAIDOA, 19 October 2026 — South West leader Aadan Mohamed Nur Madobe has accused foreign actors of involvement in political tensions and fighting in the region, warning that the alleged plan could threaten Somalia's wider statehood.
Madobe said information reaching his administration suggests the developments in the region are part of a broader effort to undermine the Somali state.
"The aim of this plan is to destroy the statehood of Somalia as a whole. The progress and state-building that have begun in Somalia are being opposed, and foreign hands are involved," Madobe said the remarks during a dinner and consultation meeting in Mogadishu on Sunday with federal lawmakers representing South West State,.
He described the developments as a new tactic, arguing that South West State may be only the starting point of a wider plan affecting the country.

Madobe also highlighted what he described as unusual security developments targeting his administration. He claimed that seven individuals intending to carry out suicide attacks entered Baidoa within a single day.
His remarks come amid ongoing political and security tensions in South West State, where armed confrontations and concerns over regional stability have heightened uncertainty.
However, the allegations of foreign interference and a broader plan to undermine Somalia's statehood were made by Madobe. The statement provided did not independently establish which foreign actors were allegedly involved or offer further evidence to substantiate the claims.
