Hargeisa, 18 August 2026 Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Irro’ on Monday backed plans by the Political Associations Registration Commission to digitize its records and modernize operations, as the body presented its 2025-2026 Strategic Plan.
The commission told Irro it aims to transfer all party and association data to a digital database, according to a statement from the presidency. Officials said the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen democracy, improve oversight, and regulate political parties.
In the meeting, the commission briefed the president on its current work, challenges, and near- and long-term priorities. Key proposals include establishing a "Democracy Academy," reforming the political system, promoting broader public participation, and improving accountability and transparency.

Irro praised the commission’s work and urged it to accelerate implementation. He pledged government support and called on members to carry out their duties with integrity to build public confidence in state institutions.
The commission is mandated to register, monitor, and resolve disputes involving Somaliland’s national political parties and associations.
