Hargeisa, 7 September 2026 Somaliland Police have launched a program to prepare selected officers to become instructors, as part of efforts to strengthen professional skills.
The weeklong program, which opened on Sunday, is being delivered by the European Union Capacity Building Mission (EUCAP), under a Training of Trainers model.
Participating officers will receive skills to pass on knowledge to other members of the force, an approach police leadership hopes will expand internal training capacity.
Somaliland Police Commissioner Brig. Gen. Abdirahman Abdillahi Hassan, who attended the opening, said the initiative is part of a broader plan to develop officers capable of training colleagues.

"Our plan includes developing knowledgeable officers who can then pass on what they have learned," Abdirahman said.
He thanked EUCAP for providing the training and said additional programs were planned for the remainder of the year.
Improving quality, skills and capabilities of the force remains a priority, with knowledge from participating officers expected to reach other units, he said.
The program forms part of broader efforts to build internal capacity, allowing knowledge gained through externally supported programs to be transferred to more personnel and supporting long-term professional development.
