Hargeisa, 24 August 2026 — Somaliland opposition party Kaah accused the Somaliland administration Sunday of failing to resolve fighting in the western regions of Awdal and Salal, urging rival sides to disarm and settle differences through dialogue.
Secretary-General Abdullahi Haji Said told a news conference in Hargeisa the party was appealing to communities involved, particularly in Lughaya, to end the violence.
“Lay down your weapons, stop the fighting and choose peace,” Said said.
He expressed condolences to families of those killed and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.

Kaah accused the authorities of either lacking capacity to resolve the conflict or contributing to tensions. It called on the administration to treat the issue as a national matter and involve religious scholars, business leaders, traditional elders, political parties and other community groups in efforts to find a settlement.
Said said Kaah was ready to take part in peace efforts and urged the administration to broaden its approach.
Fighting and tensions have been reported in parts of Somaliland’s western regions. Kaah said the communities involved share close family and social ties and should resolve differences through dialogue.
