Somalia, April 17, 2026 Somalia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports held talks with youth groups in Mogadishu Thursday to boost cooperation and expand youth participation in national development, officials said.
The meeting hosted by Director General Ahmed Yusuf Hassan discussed coordination and the role of young people in shaping the country’s youth agenda.
The gathering also reviewed preparations for Somali National Youth Day, set for May 15, with officials stressing the need for the event to promote participation, awareness and national unity.

Participants highlighted the importance of preserving stability in Mogadishu, saying young people have a key role in safeguarding recent security gains.
The ministry said the meeting is part of efforts to deepen engagement with youths to ensure their perspectives are reflected in policy and programme design.
The talks were also attended by Youth Development Director Ayaan Abdullahi and National Youth Council Chair Mohamed Ali Siyad.
