MOGADISHU, September 26, 2026 — Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, has warned that the security of the capital, Mogadishu, must not be treated as a matter to be taken lightly, urging security forces to maintain their efforts to protect the city.
The Prime Minister made the remarks at a ceremony held to recognize national forces for their role in securing Mogadishu and other parts of the country.
The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Defence and the Somali National Army Command.
Before the ceremony, Hamza met with commanders and senior officers from the country’s various security forces and received a briefing on the security situation in the capital.

According to the briefing, insecurity incidents in Mogadishu declined by 86.06% between 2023 and 2026, following the implementation of a coordinated security plan.
“No one should be allowed to play with security, whoever they may be,” Hamza told the officers, while praising the security forces for what he described as major gains in securing the capital and the country more broadly.
The ceremony was attended by the ministers of Defence and Internal Security, the Governor of Banaadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, as well as senior commanders from Somalia’s intelligence, army and police forces
