MOGADISHU, 10 October 2026 Somalia’s Northeastern State administration has denied social media reports of a security incident involving State President Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Cali Firdhiye during his departure from Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.
The administration’s Information Minister, Ahmed Abdirisaaq Diiriye, dismissed the reports as fabricated, insisting that no security incident occurred while the state president was travelling.
“I officially confirm that no security incident occurred at Aden Adde International Airport at the time President of the Northeastern Administration, Mr Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Cali Firdhiye, was travelling,” Diiriye said in a statement reported on Friday.
He urged media organisations to refrain from circulating reports that were not based on verified facts.

The statement followed reports published days earlier alleging that armed individuals suspected of posing a security concern had attempted to travel with State President Firdhiye as he departed Mogadishu. The administration has rejected the claims, but the information available does not independently establish what happened during the state president’s departure or verify the earlier allegations.
The statement also comes against the backdrop of a security directive issued on October 4 by the Northeastern State administration’s Ministry of Security.
According to the notice, airlines and passengers using airports in the administration’s territory were informed that weapons and armed personnel could not be carried on flights arriving at or departing from those airports without formal authorisation from the Ministry of Security.
The directive sets out restrictions on transporting weapons and armed personnel through airports in the administration’s territory. However, the available information does not establish whether it was issued specifically in response to the reports involving State President Firdhiye.
