Somalia, 8 November 2025 — Somalia's North East State Parliament failed to convene on Saturday due lack of quorum.
This marks the first time the newly elected parliament has failed to open a session due to quorum issues.
Only 20 out of 83 lawmakers were present in parliament on Saturday morning forcing the Speaker to postpone the sitting.
According to an official notice sent to lawmakers on Friday night, the sitting was expected to approve the general agenda for the new parliamentary term.
The North East State Parliament was formally constituted in August 2025, following the state’s official recognition as a new federal member state within Somalia’s federal system.
