Somalia, 13 January 2026 A high-level delegation from Somalia’s federal government arrived in Las Anod on Monday, marking a major step in preparations for an expected visit by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to the capital of the North East State later this week.
The delegation, led by the Second Deputy Speaker of the Upper House, Abdullahi Ali Hersi, includes the Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail ‘Fartaag’, the Minister of Energy and Water, Abdullahi Bidhan Warsame, and the Chief of the Somali Police Force, Asad Osman Abdullahi. The high-profile arrival follows the deployment of federal security forces to the city two days ago to secure the area and finalize logistical arrangements for the President’s arrival.
Upon arrival at Las Anod airport, the federal officials were received by the Speaker of the North East State Parliament, Adan Abdullahi Awhassan, and other regional dignitaries.

The federal team later held a consultative meeting with the Vice President of the North East State, Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril, to discuss cooperation and the logistics of the President’s visit.
President Mohamud is expected to attend the formal inauguration ceremony of the President of the North East State, Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Ali an event seen as a milestone in the region's political transition.
The trip is seen as a strategic move to solidify federal ties with the North East State and project a message of national unity.
