MOGADISHU (Dawan) – 29 AUG– Somalia’s Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, presented two important draft laws to the House of the People of the Federal Parliament on Saturday: the Family Affairs Bill and the Child Rights Bill, according to the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development.
The Minister said the two bills respond to important needs related to family protection, child welfare and the safeguarding of children’s rights, while enabling parliament to fulfil its constitutional duty of reviewing and approving legislation.
She said the Family Affairs Bill would help address challenges and disputes affecting Somali families, while providing greater protection for vulnerable children facing neglect and other forms of harm.

The Minister added that the Child Rights Bill would establish a framework to strengthen the protection, care and promotion of children’s rights in Somalia, ensuring children have a safe environment and better opportunities to grow and develop.
Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi called on members of the House of the People to prioritise the review and approval of the two bills, saying they are essential for building stronger Somali families and advancing human rights in the country.
