Galmudug, 20 October 2026 The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has officially registered Liban Ahmed Hassan, the Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) candidate for the post of Leader of Galmudug State.
The commission presented Liban Ahmed Hassan with the official candidacy certificate, allowing him to take part in the Galmudug leadership election.
The registration ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan; some members of the JSP Executive Committee; and ministers and MPs from the Federal Government of Somalia and Galmudug State.
Liban Ahmed Hassan’s JSP party holds the majority in the Galmudug Parliament. The party won 67 of the 89 seats in the Galmudug House of Representatives, according to the NIEBC.
The election of Galmudug’s president and vice president is scheduled for Thursday, 22 October. A day earlier, on Wednesday 21 October, the candidates will deliver their speeches.
