MOGADISHU (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s Office of the Attorney General announced that it is handling cases related to defamation, insults, hate speech, the circulation of indecent images, the spread of false information, and incitement of public disorder.
In a statement released on Sunday and shared by the Somali Police Force, the Attorney General’s Office said that some individuals have already been referred to court, while other cases remain under investigation. The office described such acts as a threat to social stability, public trust, and personal reputation.
The Attorney General stressed that strict legal measures will be taken against anyone found guilty of such offenses, emphasizing the importance of protecting dignity, reputation, and public security in Somali society.
“The office will take strong legal action against anyone who violates the law in order to safeguard the dignity, reputation, and security of Somali society,” the statement read.
The press release concluded by reaffirming the Attorney General’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, defending public trust, and ensuring lasting peace and stability for Somali communities.
The announcement comes as Somali police have in recent months arrested several people accused of defamation, hate speech, and incitement.
