Qatar, 15 September 2025 — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Monday urged UN Security Council to sanction Israel for its airstrike on Qatar calling it a “blatant violation of international law".
“The Federal Republic of Somalia expresses its deep shock and strongest condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes carried out on September 9th against a peaceful residential area in Doha, the capital of the state of Qatar.”
“This act is a blatant violation of international law, Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a grave threat to regional security, peace and stability,” said President Mohamud at the emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha.
He urged the UN Security Council to act, warning that inaction would set a dangerous trend.
“Silence or inaction in the face of such aggression would set a dangerous precedent and erode the already weakening rule-based order.”
President Mohamud offered condolences to the government and people of Qatar reaffirming Somalia's support to the Middle East country.
“We pray for the swift recovery of those injured and reaffirm Somalia’s unwavering solidarity with our Qatari brothers and sisters during this defining moment in their history.”
Addressing the situation in Gaza, he said: “The reality in Gaza is a global shame. Palestine will definitely prevail. Somalia reiterates its support for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, the release of detained hostages, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.”
He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to international peace efforts and urged all peace-loving nations to vigorously defend world order.
“Somalia stand shoulder to shoulder with all those who seek peace, justice and stability across the world.”
