Mogadishu, 27 August 2026 - Somalia's Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy and the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) discussed opportunities to develop the country's fisheries sector on Wednesday, the minister said.
The meeting included a delegation from TIKA headquarters, including experts in fisheries and marine economy, and focused on the agency's potential role in supporting coastal fisheries.
Fisheries Minister Ahmed Hassan Adan said the ministry had proposed that TIKA support coastal communities through technical training and skills development.

The proposals include training in fishing techniques, fishing net production, small boat management and modern methods for using marine resources, he said.
The partnership could help coastal communities acquire advanced skills and sustainably benefit from fisheries, contributing to increased marine production and improved food security, the minister said.
The meeting is part of broader efforts to strengthen international cooperation in developing Somalia's blue economy and promoting sustainable use of the country's marine resources.
