MOGADISHU, 9 October 2026 Somalia’s Ministry of Health and Somali National University have signed two agreements to develop De Martino Hospital into a teaching and research centre and strengthen professional training for health-sector workers.
The agreements were signed by Health Minister Dr Ali Haji Adam and the university’s rector, Dr Mohamed Mahmoud Mohamed, according to a ministry statement issued on Thursday, 8 October.Under the first agreement, the two institutions will work to develop De Martino Hospital into a teaching and research hospital to support medical education and research in Somalia.

The second agreement provides for an Executive Master’s in Health programme for staff working in federal and state health ministries. The programme will focus on professional knowledge and skills, leadership, management and health-service delivery.
The ministry and the university said the agreements reflect their commitment to cooperation in health education and workforce development. The ministry also acknowledged Italy’s support for the initiative.
