Nairobi, 26 August 2026 - Somalia and Sweden on Wednesday launched the second phase of the CAPSOM project to strengthen support for citizens returning from abroad.
The launch took place in Nairobi. The project will strengthen the operational capacity of Somalia’s National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (NCRI) and improve systems for managing return and reintegration.
It is implemented in partnership with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Swedish Migration Agency.
NCRI Chairman Liban Abdi Egal said the programme will include training for NCRI staff and support for returnees in education, employment, health and investment.

The programme is expected to begin in Mogadishu next month and will train about 300 people returning from countries including Libya and Yemen, Egal said.
It builds on an earlier phase that provided employment support to about 30 people, he said.
Representatives from Somalia's federal government, civil society, the European Union and international organizations attended the launch, discussing sustainable reintegration systems including employment opportunities.
