MOGADISHU, 28 September 2026 Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency, SoDMA, in cooperation with Jubaland’s Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management, on Sunday prepared 10 water pumps for flood-prone districts and communities across Jubaland.
The pumps are intended to remove stagnant and floodwater from towns and residential areas affected by heavy rains, helping reduce potential damage and disruption to local communities.
The move forms part of broader efforts to strengthen early preparedness and response measures as concerns grow over the possible impact of heavy rainfall and flooding associated with El Niño conditions.

Kismayo is among the areas receiving the equipment. The city’s local administration has formally taken delivery of pumps intended to drain water from neighbourhoods where rainfall has caused water to accumulate.
Jubaland officials have also called for expanded efforts to manage rainwater and reduce the risks posed to communities and the environment by flooding.
