Somalia, 7 June 2026 – Somalia’s National Bureau of Statistics completed training on developing and compiling the country’s first Producer Price Index, a milestone for Somalia’s economic statistics.
The bureau said on X on Sunday the Producer Price Index, known as PPI, was developed using data from the Somalia Integrated Business Establishment Survey, or SIBES.
The index will allow Somalia to measure price changes at the producer level before goods reach consumers, providing policymakers, researchers, development partners and investors with more detailed information on inflation trends, production costs and economic performance.
The training workshop was opened by SNBS Director General Abdisalam Mohamed and conducted in partnership with the International Monetary Fund, which provided technical support.
