Mauritania, July 8 2026 – Somalia's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar also know as Ali Bala'd, visited Mauritania on Tuesday in the first ministerial-level visit by a Somali delegation to Nouakchott as the two countries seek to strengthen bilateral ties.
The visit aims to enhance collaboration between the two nations within African, Arab and Islamic multilateral organisations, Somalia's foreign ministry said.
Ali Bala'd was received on arrival at Nouakchott International Airport by Mauritania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salim Ould Merzoug, and Somalia's non-resident ambassador to Mauritania, Yusuf Jeego.

The Somali foreign ministry said the visit reflects efforts by both governments to deepen longstanding ties and broaden cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Officials from the two countries are expected to discuss cooperation across several sectors and coordination on regional and international issues, according to the ministry.
