China, 22 April 2026 Somalia signed a satellite imagery deal with China, Space in Africa reported.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on Monday during the NewSpace Africa Conference between Somalia’s Ministry of Communications and Technology and China’s Land Satellite Remote Sensing Application Center (LASAC), under the Ministry of Natural Resources, the organization said.
The agreement focuses on cooperation in satellite imagery, including knowledge exchange, innovation and the application of geospatial data in sectors such as agriculture, urban planning and environmental monitoring.

China has expanded its cooperation with African countries in space technology and satellite services in recent years as part of broader technological partnerships.
There was no immediate comment from Somali or Chinese government officials on the agreement.
