The Federal Government of Somalia held a farewell ceremony on Sunday to honor and send off the newly formed defense forces named after Khalid Bin Walid. The 24th Brigade has been deployed to strengthen the government's efforts in combating and eliminating the Al-Shabaab militants.
At the farewell ceremony, Federal Minister of Defense Abdikadir Mohamed Noor conveyed his unwavering confidence in the deployed forces and emphasized their vital role in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab. He reassured that the government has invested substantial time and resources to thoroughly prepare them for the challenges they will face in the battle ahead.
Although the specific deployment location was not disclosed by the minister, the decision comes at a time when the government has faced criticism for what some perceive as a slowdown in its fight against Al-Shabaab.
In recent events, the Al-Shabaab militants have regrouped and initiated coordinated attacks in areas that were previously liberated by government forces. However, their attempts have been met with fierce resistance and defeat from the Somali National Army and the local forces known as 'Macawisley'.
During his address to the troops, Minister Noor urged them to persevere in their pursuit of victory or be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice in the ongoing war against Al-Shabaab. He emphasized the gravity of the threat posed by the group and highlighted the substantial responsibility they shoulder on behalf of the Somali people.
This deployment signifies a crucial step in the government's ongoing efforts to counter the persistent presence of Al-Shabaab and restore stability in the country.
