Somalia, 27 June 2026 – Somalia’s disaster management agency has sent 25 federal and state disaster response officials to China for training on flood prevention, preparedness and response, SoDMA said on Saturday.
The officials, drawn from the Somali Disaster Management Agency and relief ministries in federal member states, were sent off at a ceremony in Mogadishu attended by SoDMA Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle and several state ministers.
The training comes as Somalia prepares for the Dayr rainy season, with officials warning that expected rains linked to the El Niño phenomenon could cause floods and flash floods in parts of the country.

Abdulle urged the officials to show discipline, professionalism and patriotism during the training, and to share the knowledge and skills they gain with their institutions when they return.
He said the programme was aimed at strengthening Somalia’s national capacity to prepare for and respond to disasters, particularly floods caused by seasonal rains.
