MOGADISHU (Dawan) September 8, 2026 Somalia’s Senate held the second reading of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mining Bill on Monday, with senators discussing provisions of the legislation and its importance in managing the country’s mineral resources, according to the Senate.
The session was chaired by Senate Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi and attended by First Deputy Speaker Ali Shacban Ibrahim and Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Ali Hirsi Timacadde.
The Chairperson of the Senate’s National Resources Committee, Senator Zaynab Ismail Mohamed, presented the committee’s report on the second reading of the bill, outlining amendments, corrections and consultations conducted during the review process.

Following the committee’s presentation, senators debated the bill and submitted views and recommendations aimed at improving and completing its provisions.
Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Abdiwahab Abdi Omar, who attended the session, responded to questions raised by senators regarding the bill and explained its importance for economic development and the utilization of Somalia’s mineral resources.
The Mining Bill is part of efforts to establish a legal framework for managing Somalia’s mineral resources while strengthening the use of the country’s natural resources for development.
