ARUSHA, Tanzania, 5 October 2026 – Somalia is seeking stronger parliamentary ties with Arab countries, with the speaker of its federal parliament discussing closer cooperation with the president of the Arab Parliament.
House of the People Speaker Abdirahman Mohamed Nur Jama met Arab Parliament President Mohamed Ahmed Al Yamahi in Arusha on Sunday, Somalia’s parliament said in a statement.
The two discussed strengthening cooperation between Somalia’s parliament and Arab parliaments, maintaining regular consultations, coordinating positions on issues of mutual interest and increasing Somalia’s role in parliamentary cooperation with the Arab world, according to the statement.

They also highlighted longstanding ties between Somalia, Arab countries and Arab peoples, based on mutual respect, shared interests and cooperation, the statement said.
Jama said Somalia attached particular importance to strengthening parliamentary relations and cooperation with Arab countries.
He thanked Arab countries for their support for Somalia’s unity, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to the statement.
