MOGADISHU, 5 October 2026 Somalia is pursuing efforts to secure international humanitarian assistance, with China, Egypt, Ukraine, Qatar, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia among the countries from which support is expected.
SoDMA Director Mohamud Ma’alin Abdulle said Somalia expects 2,900 tonnes of food assistance from China to arrive in the coming days.
He was speaking on Dawan’s Miizan Podcast.
Abdulle said Somalia also expects 120 tonnes of food assistance from Egypt, adding that both countries are among those supporting efforts to address Somalia’s humanitarian needs.
He said Ukraine had made a commitment to provide assistance, although he did not provide details on the type or amount.

Abdulle said Somalia hopes to receive assistance from Qatar, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, noting that the governments of those countries have tasked organizations operating in their respective countries with delivering humanitarian aid.
“Countries such as Qatar, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia have organizations working with them, which they have mandated, and I hope that assistance will reach us,” he said.
SoDMA said cooperation between the Somali government, partner countries and international organizations remains important to ensure urgent assistance reaches people in need.
It comes as government agencies and international partners continue efforts to strengthen Somalia’s humanitarian response amid ongoing needs for food and other essential services.
