Bokol (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s Ministry of Defence announced today that its national army carried out a special operation in Bakol region on Saturday night, killing a senior Al-Shabaab commander.
According to the ministry, the operation near Burdhuhunle, 17km north of Wajid, “neutralised senior Al-Shabaab commander Hussein Moallim Hassan, known as Magaalabeen.”
In its statement, the ministry said Hussein had been a key figure in Al-Shabaab for more than 15 years, describing him as “one of the group’s most wanted figures” who played a role in planning attacks across Hiiraan, Middle and Lower Shabelle, Mudug, Galgadud, Bay, Bakool, and Gedo.
The ministry further noted: “His elimination marks a strategic gain in the continued campaign to degrade the group’s leadership structure. It also demonstrates the firm commitment of the Federal Government of Somalia and its armed forces to protect civilians, restore stability, and ensure the total defeat of terrorism in all parts of the country.”
The announcement comes as Somali and allied forces intensify operations against Al-Shabaab in multiple regions.
