Mogadishu, 5 September 2026 Somali government forces killed 14 al Shabaab militants in a planned overnight operation in the Buula Fulaay area of the southern Bay region, the Defence Ministry said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out by Somali army forces, including the Danab special forces, the ministry said in a statement.
The forces also destroyed a hideout used by the militants during the operation, according to the ministry.

The government said the operation was part of ongoing military efforts to weaken al Shabaab, improve security and consolidate control in areas affected by the Islamist militant group.
Somalia’s Defence Ministry and the army command praised the forces involved and said military operations against al Shabaab would continue until lasting peace and security were established across the country.
