Somalia, 3 June 2026 Somalia National Intelligence and Security Agency said on Tuesday that 29 Al-Shabaab members, including a commander responsible for explosives in Hiran region, were killed in planned operations in central Somalia.
NISA said the operations were carried out with support from international partners in Masajid Ali Gadud in Middle Shabelle region and Buq-aqable in Hiiraan region.
The agency said intelligence showed that about 70 Al-Shabaab members had gathered at a location three kilometres south of Masajid Ali Gadud to prepare for attacks in Middle Shabelle.
After confirming the intelligence, NISA and international partners carried out an operation that killed 23 members of the group, the agency said.

NISA said a second operation in Buq-aqable killed five Al-Shabaab members and a commander identified as Abdirahman, also known as Abdi Mudallib, who it said was responsible for explosives operations in Hiran.
The agency said Abdi Mudallib was involved in planning attacks in Buulo-burde and Jalalaqsi districts.
NISA said the operations were part of continuing efforts against Al-Shabaab.
