MOGADISHU, 20 October 2026 — The Somali government welcomed 220 citizens repatriated from Yemen at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu on Tuesday, following their displacement by the ongoing conflict in the country.
The returnees include families who had lived in Yemen for many years, as well as individuals born there. The repatriation operation was jointly coordinated by Somalia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Somalia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hassan Mohamed (Nadaara), who spoke during the reception, confirmed that the government had welcomed 220 citizens returning from Yemen.
"The Somali government has welcomed 220 people repatriated from Yemen," Nadaara said.
The deputy minister also said that more than 1,500 Somali citizens had been repatriated to the country since the beginning of the year, noting that Tuesday's operation was the third conducted in 2026.
The latest repatriation forms part of ongoing cooperation between the Somali government and UNHCR to support Somali nationals seeking to return home after being affected by insecurity and conflict in Yemen.
