Somalia, July 20 2026 – Somalia has received 10 greenhouses donated by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) to help increase agricultural production and promote modern farming technologies, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Sunday.
The greenhouses were formally handed over to the ministry's Director General, Mohamed Hassan Abdulle, during a ceremony in Mogadishu, according to the ministry.
The ministry said the project is intended to improve domestic agricultural production, provide technical training and encourage the adoption of modern cultivation methods.
Abdulle thanked TİKA for its continued support to Somalia's agriculture sector, saying the greenhouses would contribute to increasing farm productivity and strengthening the country's agricultural capacity.

The ministry also announced plans to launch an open competition through which the greenhouses will be allocated to women, although it did not specify when the competition would begin or outline the selection criteria.
According to the ministry, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernise Somalia's agriculture sector, improve food production and create employment opportunities for young people through increased investment in farming.
Türkiye has supported a range of development projects in Somalia over the past decade, including initiatives in agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and education.
