Somalia, Aug. 12, 2026 – Somalia and Qatar discussed strengthening economic and investment ties and exploring cooperation in key sectors during talks in Mogadishu, the Planning Ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry's Director General, Abdifatah Abdiqadir Farah, received a Qatari investment delegation led by Talal bin Rashid Al-Hajri, a senior adviser and assistant director of the Arab Affairs Department at Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation included representatives from Qatari government institutions, companies working in food and agriculture, the Qatar Fund for Development, and a company specialising in medical equipment, the ministry said.
The discussions covered opportunities in livestock, agriculture, fisheries, food production, medical equipment and financing for development projects, according to the ministry.

The Somali side was represented by Kamal Dahir Gutale, permanent secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister; Yusuf Hassan Isaaq ‘Wadani’, director general of the Ministry of Health; Abdi Diirshe, director general of the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy; and other officials.
The visit forms part of efforts to strengthen ties between Somalia and Qatar and promote cooperation aimed at bilateral investment, job creation and economic growth, the ministry said.
The statement did not provide details on the value of potential investments, specific projects agreed or a timeline for implementation.
